hello zigzag number two

Just as pretty as the first one I quilted...this one belongs to my sister Joy. Susan if you reading this please send me a photo of zigzag number three....my other sister Susan made hers a bit smaller and opted to quilt hers on a regular sewing machine. This pattern looks great any way you quilt it.

words to live by...

I came across this on my walk just parked on the street.....cutest concession stand I have ever seen. Makes me wonder where it lives in the summer. Could make a great word quilt don't you think? I am collecting fabric for Denyse Schmidt's pattern Collaboration [which is a word quilt] and just the other day I came across Tonya Ricucci's Blog- Lazy Gal Quilting and she has a book coming out this Dec. Word Play Quilts that I will want to get.

Jenny has a blog

Jenny and I met a few years ago because of longarming...I met her at a Judy Irish LA meeting [Judy inspires all of us to step out of the comfort zone , she published her own book titled Dazzling Doodle Designs that really encourages us to do that]. Jenny is younger, I am older, her 5 children are little, my 4 children are big...but we have our quilting and we  love to talk quilt and share our latest ideas....Check out her new blog -sewkindofwonderful- it's a good one...she is in my favorites on my sidebar....

And I managed to do a bit of organizing yesterday.....I always feel so much better about my out of control fabric and projects when I do some rearranging. Happy Monday!

perfect day

We did some fall yard cleanup today....Nick made some great dirt from our compost bin...I moved a few plants around....we enjoyed the perfect weather...we took a break to have some of sewkatiedid's green chicken chili. I so recommend this delicious recipe , there is so much flavor, flavor...Thanks for sharing  Katie.

pretty work apron

I wear an apron when I am longarming otherwise I catch my clothing on the pins that attach the quilts to my machine. I have always worn a plain black apron...not any more...I found this pretty Tula Pink Hushabye print[if you look carefully there are hidden owls] and paired it with this organic cotton that I found at Pacific Fabric [love the texture] and now I have the prettiest work apron ever! I didn't follow a particular pattern but I did check this link out for technique and ideas.

my girl on a swing

I love Aneela Hoey's blog comfortstitching and one of the first quilts I saw and loved on her blog was this sweet little girl on a swing....using this tutorial I happily made this teeny tiny quilt....I am inpired to make another using this fast and fun technique....thanks Aneela for this adorable idea. Happy Sewing to all.

Happy Birthday to you Monica

I found this Mary Engelbreit panel at Pacific Fabric on the sale table [where I find a lot of my treasures] and knew it would be a perfect gift to quilt  for my good friend who loves Mary.....Happy Birthday Monica, hope you are having a great day!

Sweet and old fashioned

A simple 4 patch variation....this quilt was designed by Darlene Zimmerman and appeared in American Patchwork and Quilting  Feb. 2007. Iris made this lovely quilt with pretty lavenders and greens for her very lucky daughter....I love  the simple meander stitching for that old fashioned look ... it is  going to look even better once it is washed and loved .

Splish Splash

I finished Julie's quilt with Splash by Jodi Beamish - Willowleaf Studios.
It works so well with the water and seashell design. The blues and greens work so great together.
I am off to Innovations for a fun day with my Longarm friend Jenny....fun, fun, fun.

almost time to blast off

Sam's quilt is so close...I am just finishing up the fabulous Lakehouse stripe binding....I really enjoyed making this chunky log cabin and I will be a little sad to say goodbye. I machine quilted it with Blast Off by Lorien Quilting and Lava verigated thread by Superior.

French General you are so pretty !

This beautiful quilt belongs to Diane...it is a traditional star log cabin pieced with all 3 lines of Moda French General...I quilted it using Rainbow Flight by Miki and Diane for the first time. I think the end result to an already gorgeous quilt is  more gorgeous !

Chunky log cabin

Sam's quilt is all put together now! This simple half log cabin was so fast and fun and used up a lot of my leftovers from Tablescraps [started a few years ago]....funny how it managed to be finished first!  Looking forward to quilting it, I am going to use a panto called Blast Off by Lorien possibly with a verigated thread....coming soon.

A whole lot of color going on...

Back in 2006 when my sisters first started quilting we went on a Western Washington Shop Hop together...
Quitworks NW in Bellevue and Bayside in Olympia both had Quiltsoup Trunkshows going on....I fell hard for Tablescraps, I loved everything about this quilt especially the wild use of orange, red , green and yellow.
I recently finished the 49 blocks needed to complete my modified queen...the original pattern has 25....collecting fabric for this project was a blast...every block was crazy different...like a box of chocolates...

Meanwhile in 2010 my son Sam graduated a 2 year multimedia program at LWC and of coarse I wanted to make a queen quilt for his bed....I was inspired by this simple half log cabin seen at QA quiltshow and rocket ships to represent his  "anything is possible future"....using the scraps leftover from Tablescraps this is what I came up with . I also have a label ready for Sam's quilt made by sister Joy with her Janome....btw I recently saw the new Janome Horizon approx. $3000 and want it real bad but that is another story and another year I'm afraid.

I love being surrounded by all this fabulous color....and I am hoping to complete both of these wonderful quilts soon.  Happy sewing ...Pam

PS Speaking of color....here is my girl with a her buddies bursting with color and HS pride heading to their first football game of the year.
